It is essentially painting every surface of the room in the same colour. This includes not only the walls but also the ceiling, furniture, fixtures, cabinets and the like. While the technique is timeless, the term is relatively new and the appeal is endearing to say the least. Therefore, colour drenching a space involves painting it in a single colour and then using different shades and tones of the same colour to highlight accents which could be rugs, furnishings, artwork and other design elements.

There is no denying the fact that painting a space in a single colour sets the mood and tone for the space. Nothing screams vibrancy and energy like bright yellow which is perfect for a nursery or even a child’s room. Olive green and deep grey work well for a media room while beige or powder blue is the ideal hue for a serene bedroom. While pastels exude a sense of calm and serenity, bright colours radiate lively vibes that can suit meeting rooms and even libraries.

A single hue in a space works well to tie all the elements together and brings in a sense of uniformity and cohesiveness. It makes the room look aesthetically pleasing and helps cut down the visual clutter. For example, if there is a seamless connection between the walls and the trims or the wainscoting and the walls, it is sure to cut the noise and gives the space coherent and symmetric appearance.

Light colours have the ability to create a feeling of space and helps making a small space appear larger. Different shades of pastels also help create an illusion of space. Similarly darker hues add depth to the room and lighting serves to add the perfect contrast between tints of the same colour. Moreover, a single colour adds height to a space and aids in expanding the space visually.

This is one of the biggest advantages of colour drenching in that it accentuates the look of the space. For example, nothing elevates the mood and feel of powder rooms better than jewel tones and gold accents. A dull space whether your den or your foyer can be instantly enlivened with a coat of alluring colour. Further, colour drenching can also help camouflage unwanted elements like wires, screens etc creating a more pleasing ambience.
