Review: Novotel Vijayawada Varun – your gateway to Vijayawada and beyond

With a spectacular central atrium and tastefully done up reception, I was truly floored as I first entered the hotel.  The ambience is chic and contemporary.  I loved the play of colours which are a right combination of quirk and class.

The accomodation options are diverse in order to meet the varying needs of the guests.  Hence, there are superior rooms, suite rooms, executive rooms, studios and even apartments to cater to these needs.  The decor of the rooms again combines functionality with elegance.

I loved the way the design and decor incorporated local elements in terms of sourcing paintings from local artists and having native handicrafts as artefacts.   Equipped with all modern facilities, the rooms are a picture of comfort and luxury!

Facilities

Novotel Vijayawada Varun offers a plethora of facilities in terms of a full fledged fitness centre, signature spa and salon as well as an infinity swimming pool on the top floor.  With fascinating views of the city, the wellness zone on the top is a haven for the guests.

Treat yourself to some totally rejuvanting therapies at the Dew Spa which offers a whole range of services using only natural products that are prepared sans synthetics and chemicals.  The property also has an exclusive jogging track for all you fitness freaks!  In addition to all of this, the hotel has three meeting rooms that are ideal for corporate conferences as well as banquet spaces for get togethers, functions and large gatherings.

Unique gastronomic experiences

Arguably, the best part about Novotel Vijayawada Varun is the food which is a veritable feast to the senses.   Helmed by the very talented Chef Vinay Kumar, the menu includes exclusive handcrafted specialities replete with unique flavours and creative presentation.

The spread at the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets at the Food exchange is extensive and extremely palatable.  It includes a wide range of Indian, continental, oriental and regional local delicacies.  The Andhra fare is authentic and delectable.

The Teppanyaki experience at The Wugan which is the city’s only fine dining restaurant is an experience quite like none other.

Do not miss sampling the drinks at the Gourmet Bar that are served with a unique local twist.

Engaging sights galore

Vijayawada is a multifaceted city that has much to offer for the experiential traveler.  Within the city you can explore architectural gems like the ancient Undavalli caves, the impressive Prakasham barrage and the auspicious Kanaka Durgamma temple.  Just outside the city, Mangalagiri is an insightful town that is home to hand woven saris as well the Panaka Narasimha swamy temple.  Catch the making of the beautiful Kondapalli wooden toys as well as the Kondapalli fort just 22 km from Vijayawada.  Pedana which is home to the famous Kalamkari fabrics is about 70 km from the city. Amravati, about 60  km away houses some interesting Buddhist sites.  If you are a fan of local produce, make a visit to the famous Guntur chilli market (45 km from the city) where tonnes of chillies exchange hands each day!
