There is a lot going on in New Zealand, especially in Queenstown, where the fun never seems to stop. Not only is it known as the adventure capital of the world, but it is also one of the world’s best party towns, according to 1Cover.
With so much going on, it can be a bit overwhelming to know where to start from when you are visiting for the first time. Here is a step-by-step guide to everything you can do when you have 24 hours in Queenstown. It is sure to be a trip that you will never forget!
Set yourself up for the day
Give yourself the best start to the day by indulging in a sumptuous breakfast. There are lots of different options, but the best would be grabbing some goodies from one of the bakeries close by. Sit down to savour a hearty English breakfast including scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and baked beans.
Soak in the views
Start your tour of the city by enjoying the abounding natural beauty and scenery of the land. New Zealand is known for its stunning landscapes and Queenstown is no exception, since it is surrounded by lakes and mountains. Go on a hiking trip (or tramping, as the Kiwis call it), take a ride on a mountain bike, or sit back on the Skyline Gondola, where the cable car takes you 450 metres above Lake Wakatipu!
Experience an adrenaline rush
Queenstown is often described as the adventure capital of the world. It is home to the world’s first commercial bungee jump. However, do not worry if that does not appeal to you. There is also canyon swinging, water rafting, and paragliding to name a few adventure activities.
Take a break to sample some wine
No trip to New Zealand is complete without a customary visit to a vineyard. Head to Gibbston Valley, where you can explore the country’s largest wine cave and sample some of its offerings. Stopping here for lunch that is paired with delectable wines, is definitely a great idea!
Go on a helicopter ride
For the ultimate treat, let a pilot take control as you climb into a helicopter and experience the stunning views of Queenstown and beyond — the majestic mountain peaks are a particularly spectacular.
Explore the city
Back on the ground, enjoy a stroll through the city centre. It is a great idea t to pick up some souvenirs, browse the art galleries, or do a little shopping at the independent stores. Whatever you decide to do, take some time to unwind before a busy night.
Enjoy a delicious dinner
There is something to suit everyone’s palate in Queenstown. Right from a quick bite to eat to a fancy meal and to everything in between. Look out for local, seasonal produce or stop by not-so-hidden gems like Fergburger or Jervois Steak House. There are lots of interesting fusion restaurants, too, if you want to sample some unique cuisine.
Let your hair down till dawn
The night isn’t over yet! Enjoy the cocktails at one of Queenstown’s many bars (do look out for a happy-hour deal somewhere) and listen to some live music before you head to one of the clubs and dance the night away!
