Considering that I have always been a fan of healthy and wholesome eating, I was happy to learn of JustBe , a resto cafe that serves exclusively plant based, whole foods that is ideal for vegans and vegetarians. But when I heard that the food here is prepared sans any oil, dairy, refined flour and sugar, I was rather intrigued and curious. However on visiting JustBe, founded by Nidhi Nahata I was pleasantly surprised, for the food served was not only healthy but also extremely flavourful and simply delectable. A perfect lesson that healthy is not always and necessarily boring!
Ecelectic Decor
Located in upmarket Sadashivnagar in Bangalore, the decor at JustBe is contemporary and casual with relaxing, warm vibes. Teals, greens, browns and pastels dominate the colour scheme and the restaurant which can seat upto 120 is divided into distinct zones like the private dining area, lounge, den, studio etc.
So, based on your requirement and the occasion you can choose your own cozy spot! Replete with book shelves, antique cookware, wooden accents, distressed walls and other knick kancks, the decor exudes elegance and class.
A key point to note is the fact that there are plenty of open spaces with ample greenery making it a totally safe place in these strange times of the pandemic.
Melange of flavours and healthy choices
The food at JustBe is an ode to nature and all its goodness. It includes fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds that are locally sourced as far as possible. Prepared fresh and free from additives, preservatives and food colour, the cafe does not used any preprocessed food. The menu has been carefully planned to include foods that only nourish the body but also repair and rejuvenate. It makes ample use of super foods and highly nutritious food like millets, horsegram, asparagus, tofu, broccoli, sprouts, leafty vegetables and the like.
For starters you can choose from unique preparations like methi nachos accompanied by tomato, tulsi salsa, guacamole and almond cheese dip or whole wheat flat bread with a variety of nuts and naturally flavoured dry fruits. There is also the delicious papdi chaat, bit sized pizza as well chole tikki for appetizers.
On the menu are superfood bowls which include a combination of brown rice accompanied by sprout salad, steamed silken tofu and bok choy. The sweet potato gnocchi is something that must be on your list.
The vegetable biryani served with peanut curd and ragi pappad was my favourite. Aromatic and extremely flavourful, it is as good if not better than how you would conventionally prepare biryani and raita.
If you have a sweet tooth, the desserts are wonderful too with fare like sweet potato brownie, choc chia pudding, baked chandrakala and kiwi pannacota.
