Review: Bo Tai, Bangalore – Oriental cuisine with a difference

The latest addition to namma Bengaluru’s burgeoning food scene is Bo Tai, a modern Thai bar and grill in J W Marriott on Vittal Mallaya road.  An ideal place if you are a lover of Thai and Chinese fare, Bo Tai which is a verbal pun on “bow-tie” is replete with chic and spunky vibes.

With a capacity of about 80-100, the decor is contemporary and a perfect balance of style, aesthetics and functionality.  The seating includes alfresco seating as well which is set amidst lush greenery making the whole ambience warm and cozy.

The menu includes several specially curated dishes all of which represent an interesting take on oriental cuisine.  The food scores high on style, presentation and flavour.  Starters include the extremely flavourful preserved raw mango avocado which is essentially avacado slices served with thinly sliced raw mango all of which is garnised with dry coconut flakes, chilli powder and salt.  A delighful melange of savoury, spicy and sour flavours.

Jackfruit Red Curry Cream Baos is yet another unusual dish for a starter which has a perfect balance of varied ingredients with jackfruit lending a subtle yet distinct flavour.

The avocado carpaccio is a yet another mild yet extremely palatable starter, if you are not a fan of spice and the signature bird chillies associated with Thai fare.

The corn curd pepper salt as well as leek and water chestnut dimsums are worth a try.

For the main course we sampled jasmine rice with Thai Green coconut curry both of which were bursting with authentic flavours. While the Pad Thai noodles is very popular, the stir fried noodles was my favourite.

For dessert lovers, the range is delectable and includes the Belgian choclat tart and coffee mousse both of which, at the risk of sounding cliched, are lip smacking.

The coconut creme brulee is one dish you do not want to miss for it is a hands down winner with complementing flavours of creme, caramalized sugar, a dash of mint and the innate flavours of the coconut shell.  A treat for the senses indeed!
